Chronic Pain

Managing Chronic Pain with Talk Therapy

When you are in pain, it takes over your whole world.

Chronic pain could mean:

  • Lower quality of life
  • A sense of helplessness
  • Depressive thoughts

Often others have a hard time understanding what you are going through or suggest that things are just in your mind. However, the pain is all too real to you.

So what can you do?

The options out there are endless. This is where a trained therapist could help. With talk therapy, she can help you re-organize your thoughts and prioritize your goals.

Our therapists are trained to use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). To treat chronic pain, CBT is often used together with other pain management techniques such as medication and physiotherapy. In control studies, CBT was shown to be as good or better than other treatments.

Possible outcomes with CBT:

  • The ability to take ownership of your own pain management
  • Have better ways to cope with the pain
  • Provide relief for pain
