Here are my key takeaways:
Depression is debilitating. There really is no rhyme or reason to it. I’ve seen it happen to the best of us. It is NOT a statement on the kind of person you are. However, it can feel like it.
The black dog analogy is helpful because it shows depression as a third party member. Like a big dog that can drag you around, you can be dragged to feel or act in certain ways you don’t want to go.
The most vivid picture from the video is when the person could no longer separate himself from the black dog. In this case, he started isolating himself from others.
Our main character begins on a journey for recovery and it begins by seeking help.
Have you seen the Invictus Games opening recently? The theme is easy to catch, it was about the team. And every person who suffered from PTSD relied on a team to help them overcome. They also used a black dog as analogy.
Similarly, the black dog was tamed in this video when he started to be genuine about the black dog with people he trusted.
Are you being dogged by a black dog?
Reach out for help , because you are not alone.
